Five Years of Helical Fusion _Message from CEO
Helical Fusion marks its fifth anniversary today.
At this milestone, what I want to express above all is my deepest gratitude to everyone who has walked alongside us and put in the hard work to move this endeavor forward.
We started with four people. Today, our team has grown to more than 60. The JPY 13 billion entrusted to us reflects the tremendous belief, trust, and expectations placed in what we are building. We are also moving forward through concrete collaborations with more than 30 companies across Japan.
These numbers represent much more than the growth of a company.
They represent a growing community of people who have made the decision to commit themselves — and, in many cases, their organizations — to pursuing something that has never been achieved: bringing fusion energy to society.
Our employees and their families, shareholders, industry partners, universities and research institutions, public-sector partners, and everyone who continues to support us — Helical Fusion exists today because of each of you.
Above all, I am deeply proud of our team. Every day, in many different places and roles, they confront difficult challenges and steadily move this enormous undertaking forward.
And yet, measured against what we ultimately set out to achieve, we have accomplished very little.
Our goal is not simply to develop new technology. It is to bring fusion energy into society and create entirely new industries around it. It is to expand humanity’s energy options and create a future filled with possibility, with a horizon extending not just decades or centuries, but toward the next million years.
By that measure, we are still at the starting line.
Across Helical Fusion today, there is a profound sense of gratitude toward everyone taking on this challenge with us — and an equally profound sense of responsibility to live up to the expectations placed upon us.
We will persist in this bold endeavor to bring the energy of the stars to Earth.
At the same time, humanity’s relationship with energy is entering uncharted territory.
Accelerating technological progress is driving enormous demand for energy, placing increasing pressure on how we produce and consume it. Fusion energy could become part of the answer. But it could also force us to confront a deeper question.
What do we want all this energy for?
What should the relationship between humanity and energy ultimately be?
Fusion has the potential to make vastly greater amounts of energy available to humanity. If we succeed, these questions will become more immediate, not less.
At Helical Fusion, we believe our responsibility extends beyond developing the technology itself. We must engage seriously with these questions as we build it.
We will continue to develop fusion energy with care and responsibility, so that it can become a source of hope for humanity and our planet.
